Nothing wrong with any of the transmissions just under certain loads and conditions they are at that confused point. Trannies were never a specialty of mine but heavily studied back in the Stone Age! I own and have driven tons of Fords (much older than this) and no issues for the silly little driving I do but fill it with people or a load AND add hills at around 35ish it sure can get confused in and out of OD but just put it in plain "D" and all is fine. I'd leave o/d off when climbing hills anyway. If no engine issue found, I would look at trans. An aftermarket delay box that plugged into trans wires largely corrected this problem. They would shift into o/d almost immediately after third gear and pulling hills they would often go back and forth. Not sure about later models but earlier E40D transmissions had an issue with early application of o/d. May just be the trans shifting in and out of o/d. (This post was edited by Discretesignals on Mar 14, 2012, 12:02 PM) If it does show misfire counts, usually its a coil breaking down. I just tuned up one this morning and had to extract three plugs. If you can't get them out with the special tool, you have to remove the cylinder head to get them out. If one breaks, you need to buy a special tool to get them out. The plugs on these motors are notorious for breaking while taking them out. You don't want to pull plugs on this motor unless you plan on replacing them. There are no spark plug wires on this one. It's possible it could be in the transmission, but you should monitor for misfires first before condemning the transmission. (This post was edited by Jamesleandre on Mar 14, 2012, 11:39 AM) Since you think it's misfiring, misfiring are caused by bad spark plugs (visual inspect), wires (check with DMM Should be 10 thousand ohm per foot, or visually inspect for cracks), and coils (can be swapped out with a good coil or checked with a DMM). If I was in your place, I would check out the spark plugs. Think is more in the motor, than the transmisson? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved. You'll have to take it to a shop that can access mode $06 to look at misfire information. Might not be missing enough to cause the computer to trip a code. ![]() If I push the button and take it off of over driver and keep it running higher rpm's it seems to be ok. ![]() I have cked the fluid and filled it up, and it still seems to do it.
